Sony Ericsson C905 Versus LG Viewty Or Samsung G800 – Let the Fight Begin!

Sony Ericsson managed to make a whirlwind of promotion on their latest Cyber-shot the C905. This is largely due to the fact that it carries 8.1 megapixel camera within that finely tuned case. And it can contend with LG Viewty and Samsung G800, both are appealing camera phones that were launched in the last twelve months.

Dimension Story

Well anyways, here is the competition with their specifications. In terms of dimensions, LG Viewty weights 112 g, 54.4mm wide x 103.5mm tall x 14.8mm deep. The G800 weighs 129g, 52mm wide x 101.5mm tall x 18.88mm deep. And the C905 weighs 136g, 49mm wide x 104mm tall x 18 mm deep. Looks to me that LG Viewty has won this round, both Sony Ericsson C905 and Samsung G800 are a little too chucky.

Display Story

With display LG Viewty has 240×400 pixels in its touch screen. Samsung G800 and Sony Ericsson C905 have 320×240 pixels. That’s was another point for LG, and a draw between Sony Ericsson and Samsung.

Storage Capacity

In terms of storage capacity, LG Viewty has 100 MB internal memory, bundled with microSD slot for a 2GB expandable memory, Samsung 6800 has 110MB internal memory, and 4GB expandable memory, Sony Ericsson C905 has 160MB internal memory and 2GB expandable memory. A sure win for Samsung 6800.

Camera Powers

Now with their built in camera, LG Viewty has 5.0 megapixel sensor, Digital stabilisation, Schneider-Kreuznach lens, Video at 120fps and Xenon flash. Samsung G800 has 5.0 megapixel sensor, Auto focus and LED flash, 4x digital zoom and 3x optical zoom. Sony Ericsson C905 has 8.1 megapixel sensors, Bestpic, 16x digital zoom, autofocus, Photofix, Image stabilizer, Picture blogging and Red-eye reduction. Surely Sony Ericsson has won this fight.

Connectivity and other features

Moving on to connectivity, it’s a win for Sony Ericsson having an added aGPS, compared to LG Viewty and Samsung G800 who both solely have HSDPA and Bluetooth.

Battery Life, LG Viewty : 434 hours on standby and 355 minutes talk time. Samsung G800 has 220 hours on standby and 200 minutes talk time. Sony Ericsson C905 has 380 hours on standby and talk time of up to 9 hours.

Lastly with pricing and availability LG Viewty is at £179.99 SIM-free, Samsung G800 is at £239.99 SIM-free and for Sony Ericsson C905, pricing and availability is still at the last quarter of this year.

That wasn’t too bad a performance of Sony Ericsson C905…especially at the Camera specs round.

Sony vs. Olympus: Digital Voice Recorders

Digital voice recorders have become increasingly popular over the last few years, as they offer a relatively cheap and reliable alternative to older cassette voice recorders. Digital voice recorders use memory – much like the memory used in your personal pc – to record sound, rather than tape cassettes. Newer recorders tend to have very large memory capacities, despite their small size.

Though there are several brands of digital voice recorders to choose from, two stand out as the most popular at this time: Sony and Olympus. Here we attempt to compare two recording devices, one from each company. Hopefully this information will be helpful in deciding which recorder is more suitable for your needs.

Olympus DM-20 Digital Voice Recorder

The DM-20 is a popular new model by Olympus. It has received high marks in the past for it’s large memory capacity (128MB Built-in flash) that provides about 45 hours of voice recording time. In addition, the device is capable of holding 120 minutes of high quality mp3 music. The recorder can hook up to both a mac or pc, so there isn’t much of a compatibility issue in uploading/ downloading songs or voice recordings. Physically, the device is really quite sharp (picture below), and is relatively light – 3 oz. This is good news for anyone who travels; it can be easily placed in a pocket or hand bag. The device also has some nice features that make it even more attractive, such as reminder alarms (work much like your alarm clock), different play and play-back modes, files may be saved in WMA or DSS format, and an external microphone. The main draw back to the device is the lack of an on/ off switch – something that should certainly be there. You are forced to hold down the hold button for some time before the device will shut down. Other than this, however, the device is well worth your attention. It currently sells for $180 – $270 dollars, so shop around.

Olympus DM-20 Digital Voice Recorder

Sony‘s answer to the DM-20 is the ICD-MS515 memory stick digital voice recorder. This device uses removable Memory Stick Media that is very similar to the smart flash cards used in digital cameras and other devices. The ICD-MS515 comes with a relatively small 8mb memory stick that holds about 170 minutes of recording. This is much smaller than the capacity of the DM-20, but it is possible to simply upgrade to larger memory sticks. Some of the nice features of this device are the built-in microphone, the ability to work with Voice To Print Software (allows the conversion of voice recording to text), usb connectivity, and a voice e-mail system (allowing you to send audible voice mail). The device is also very light, weighing slightly less than 3 oz. It’s proportions are very similar to that of the Olympus DM-20. Besides the low memory capacity (which can be upgraded at an additional cost), this a very solid and competitive device. It currently sells for around $200.

Plasma HDTV – The Truth About Plasma TV Lifespan

If you’re still living back in the days when Plasma TVs were only supposed to last a short time then you need to drag yourself back into current reality.

The truth is, a Plasma HDTV can last you up to half a lifetime – that’s no exaggeration with several major companies including Panasonic, Samsung and Pioneer listing longevity of up to 60,000 hours.

Equivalent Longevity To LCD TVs

This now means plasma TVs are now equal to LCDs in longevity which is impressive considering LCDs were supposed to run them out of town when they first hit the market and many were shouting the “death of plasma.”

Many are still clinging to the claims of nearly a decade ago that plasma TVs burnt out too quick and were not worth their purchase price in comparison to their shelf life.

That’s true in a sense when one needed to shelve out nearly five figures for the pleasure of putting one over their neighbors in the “keeping up with the Jones’” race but things have turned around dramatically since then.

THe price of plasmas has dropped significantly – thanks to new technology, more units being sold and the competition from LCD units. Plasma burn may even be thing of the past although don’t dare test it by leaving your screen on a still image for more than ten minutes.

Today’s models are thinner, have superior anti-burn technology and consume much less power. From a viewing perspective, they have always been superior especially from TV viewing distance and viewing angle.

4 Tips For Longer Plasma Life

The figure of 60,000 hours longevity will differ from brand to brand so keep in mind that some are superior to others. Here are some important tips in keeping your Plasma HDTV working in tip-top order for many years:

- keep it in a well ventilated area

- do not leave static images on the screen for longer than 8-10 minutes

- avoid watching in very brightly lit rooms; in other words, plasma TVs perform better in normal lit and dimly lit areas

- make sure the unit is turned off when you are not using it

The Benefits Of Owning A Plasma TV

If you’ve been considering purchasing a new television in the near future, you’ve got a lot options. DLP, LCD, or any other three letter acronyms could tempt you to buy. However, the plasma TV has many advantages over the competition. Let’s look at a few of them now.

Besides just being able to say that you have a plasma TV (which is cool all by itself) there are a lot of good things about it. For instance, the quality of plasma is unparalleled in the industry. With plasma you’ll find over 16 million colors on your standard screen. That’s a lot of colors. It’s quite a bit more than you’ll find in any standard television. Most likely a lot more than the TV that’s sitting in your living room right now. Try finding something on TV that doesn’t fit into that color spectrum.

The image clarity of the plasma is also nothing short of amazing. The screen is brighter throughout than any other TV. You’re a lot less likely to strain your eyes watching a big, beautiful, bright screen like this. You won’t see any blurry images or dull spots on your screen either. Problems like this are a thing of the past.

Are you one of those people that have an old-school projection TV? It takes up half the living room doesn’t it? Does your big screen pull double-duty as the mantle? Ever wish you had a big screen without all the wasted space? If so, the plasma is your best bet. Plasmas allow for a sleek design that can be mounted on the wall. Some of them are just a few inches thick, but still pack in a 50″ screen. It also weighs about 10 times less than a traditional TV. You won’t have to break your back to get it in place. They look more modern and come in a variety of colors. You can blend them with any design elements you have. Get a plasma and you’ll be able to actually have the living room back.

Thanks to advances in technology, just having a regular TV isn’t enough. Internet connectivity is important in this day and age. Many of today’s plasma TV’s are compatible to computers. This means that you can use the 50″ screen as your monitor. Surf the internet, do some work, or even play games on that amazing plasma screen. In fact, many of the newer models are internet ready. You won’t even have to get up to go to the computer anymore. Imagine the possibilities!

Overall, the plasma TV has a lot to offer for the average consumer. If you’re considering an upgrade to some form of HDTV this is most likely your best bet. It offers the best in quality, picture, and performance. It will save you space and fit in with your décor. Before you buy, be sure to check out a plasma television.

Sony KDL-20S3000 – 20" Widescreen Bravia HD Ready LCD TV – Review

This is another great product from Sony and I’m very pleased with this one. The TV is ideal for a kitchen or bedroom (I have mine in the kitchen). When I buy a product I like to do lots a research and narrow down the possible products. Out of the HD TVs I had narrowed down a list of Phillips, Samsung and LG – all round the 20″ size. I like to go down to a shop to view and listen to the TVs first before buying, and to me – the Sony looked and sounded the best.

I found that the Samsung was the smallest of my list of possible TVs and also looks very pretty, however as I found with the LG – the sound quality was poor with no decent bass. With the Phillips – I wasn’t too impressed with the picture, so while I had to reach a little deeper in my pocket I decided to go for the Sony in the end as the sound and picture seemed much better than the rest – it really does look brilliant! This is a big purchase for me but I like to get something that I’m completely happy with so I’m glad I spent the little extra.

The picture quality is pretty awesome, but going from an old CRT style TV I’m going to notice the difference! The sound is even better than my old TV which I thought wouldn’t be the case – so a pleasent suprise there.

If you are going to put the TV in a confined space, have a look on the manufacturers website and check the measurements. Be careful as sometimes they list two dimensions, one with a stand and one without.

I searched high and low on the net for the best price and at the time of writing Amazon is the cheapest. Delivery was great, I placed my order on Tuesday and the set arrived on Thursday at 9am, free delivery as well!
